      About Us

Dear Friend,
After years of travel in Mexico and indulging ourselves in learning about Mexican culture by exploring Mexican folk art, we have turned a love into a business. But it remains first a love. We hope this website can be used by people planning to visit Mexico for the first time, to aid in understanding the folk art to be encountered. We would love this website to be visited by people interested in Mexico and Mexican folk art as they would visit an art gallery. And, of course, if an attachment comes to exist to one of the items on these pages, everything here is for sale.

We specialize in folk art and fine art from Mexico, and occasionally have a few items from selected South and Central American countries. Each item is personally selected by Larry Sanders, our resident artist and, though similar items may be available, because all items are handcrafted, they are all different. In some catagories, keeping this site up to date is next to impossible.  Please don't hesitate to email us with questions about our present stock.

Periodically, we will add a section on  some prominent topic in Mexican folk art. An explanation of the topic and its  history will accompany pictures of a number of artists' representations of it.  Other times, we may explore certain kinds of art or certain artists or families of artists. If you have a topic in Mexican folk art which you would like to see us explore, please email us to let us know.

Folk art is created by untrained  artists who reflect their culture, often in a whimsical manner. Though folk art is produced all over the world, we have a special affection for the creativity,  humor, and versatility of the work of the Mexican people. Please consider this  site a gallery of some of our favorite things.

Casa Mexicana was started in 1995 in  the Deep Ellum area of Dallas. This is an area of eclectic entertainment, fine  to casual dining, upscale apartments, and unique shops within walking distance  of downtown Dallas. The shop was successful immediately, offering the rich  diversity of

Mexican folk art to an area already rich in diversity.

We have recently moved just three blocks away from our original  location into a residential area favored by artists.  We are just two doors down  from the new Latino Cultural Center, a site well worth a visit by anyone  visiting or living in Dallas.  Its architecture alone makes it an outstanding place to visit and it houses rotating exhibits and performances. And don't forget to stop by the excellent gallery right nearby.  We hope to see you  soon.

Sincerely,
"The 4 Amigos" - Julie, Larry, Tom & Chica (the  miracle dog)

P.S. We have a good collection of books (including  children's books) on Mexican Art and also Mexican Cookbooks. Please email us for our complete booklist
