Milagros or Miracles, found in many areas of Latin America, are used by the people to petition saints for help or protection. These metal images are left in
the churches pinned on or near the robes of saints.
These Milagros serve to remind the saint of the person's prayers or to thank the saint for prayers that have been answered. Animal figures may be left to ask for help in healing sick livestock. Students may leave an open book asking for divine intervention in their grades. Body parts may be asking for healing in that part of the body. But arms and hands may also have to do with friendship and legs with a journey. Hearts are often left to thank the saint for answering the prayers of the lovelorn. Even though each Milagro is specially mde for a unique purpose, they can mean many different things to different people.
