Jaguar Masks by Margarito Melchor

Updated January 31, 2007

DESCRIPTION

These beautiful jaguar "masks" are by Margarito Melchor of Oaxaca. They are not true masks, because there are no eyeholes; they are only masks in the sense that they are faces only.  They are carved and painted wood in the Oaxacan Woodcarving tradition. Senor Melchor's work is featured on the cover of OAXACAN WOODCARVING. Notice the lizard painted on the tongue of the rainbow mask.
