The Descendents of Candelario Medrano

Updated February 9, 2007

We are familiar with two descendents of the famed Candelario Medrano working in a village near Guadalajara.  These men have continued and refined the Candelario style as collected by Rockefeller.  We usually have work by both artists, Gerardo Ortega and J. R. R. Medrano.

Gerardo Ortega's walls are covered with awards he has won both in Mexico and the United States. Several times he has won major prizes in the Tlaquepaue National Folk Art Competition held annually in the state of Jalisco  His handmade ceramic pieces are big, bright and bold, and at the same time whimsical, sweet and primitive.
