Irene, Concepcion, and Jesus Aguilar

Updated December 8, 2007

Irene Aguilar is the third of the four Aguilar sisters in birth order and calls herself a "clay craftsperson" and often listens to music to inspire here while she works.  In her studio amidst the many photos and newsclippings hang many awards for her art and diplomas from different institutions acknowledging her contribution to the world of folk art.  Irene and her husband have three children who help them in the studio plus create their own inspirations from clay.  Irene has permanent displays of her work in the International Folk Art Museum in Santa Fe, New Mexico and the San Antonio Museum.

Concepcion Aguilar, the youngest of the Aguilar Sisters, was only nine years old when her mother dies without ever showing her the art and magic of working with clay.  With determination, Concepcion taught herself to make figures in clay by watching her siblings at work.  Today, she lives next door to them and is proud that her work is also collected by people around the world.

Jesus Aguilar is the younger brother of the four famous sisters. He has started to sell his pieces only fairly recently, but we feel you will agree his work lives up to the tradition of his family.
